🐾 Dog-Friendly Beach Rules & Safety Tips

Lower Largo and the surrounding East Neuk beaches are incredibly welcoming to four-legged travellers. To keep the coastline beautiful and safe for everyone, please keep these local guidelines in mind during your stay:

  • Year-Round Freedom: Lower Largo beach has no seasonal dog bans, meaning your pup can run off-lead on the sand 365 days a year.

  • Paws on the Path: When walking along the Fife Coastal Path, please keep your dog on a short lead near steep cliff edges, narrow passes, and areas with nesting coastal birds.

  • Mind the Tides: The tide moves quickly in Largo Bay. Always check the daily tide tables before setting off on long beach walks so you don't get cut off by the water.

  • Respect the Wildlife: Keep an eye out for seals resting on the rocks and coastal otters near the river mouth. Ensure your dog doesn't chase or disturb them.

  • The Chainwalk Restriction: Please note that the adventurous Elie Chainwalk is strictly not suitable for dogs, as it requires climbing vertical rock faces using steel chains.

  • Scoop the Poop: Always clean up after your pet. Use the dedicated red dog waste bins located at the entrance to Lower Largo beach and around the harbour.

  • Sandy Paw Wash: Don't forget to use our cottage's outdoor tap to rinse off salt and sand before heading back
